Chamber Announces 2016 Leadership Jackson Class Participants

By: Julie Daniels, Communications Coordinator on Sep 01, 2016

The Jackson Chamber is pleased to announce the nominees selected for its 2016 Leadership Jackson class. Leadership Jackson is a leadership development program for community members who demonstrate leadership potential. Sponsored by the Jackson Chamber, the program is an opportunity for local professionals to learn more about the community and the challenges it faces.

The class will participate in a full day information session in early-September to get acquainted and find out more about what their Leadership Jackson experience will entail. The session will be led by Leadership Jackson 2016 Chair Jon Ewing, chief operations officer, Woman’s Clinic, P.A.; and the program’s Vice Chair, Sarah Johnson, director of population health & value based contracting, The Jackson Clinic P.A. The following week, Leadership Jackson class members will go on a two-day opening retreat.

Leadership Jackson's Sarah Johnson, vice chair, and Jon Ewing, chair, look over notes at a recent Leadership Jackson Alumni Association luncheon. They will direct the 2016 class.

Our first session of Leadership Jackson is peeking out of the horizon,” says Ewing. “I am so excited to see this year’s class embark on life with the awakenings that are waiting on them through Leadership Jackson. These are life changing beginnings and friendships that are about to be formed. Being afforded the opportunity to be a part of this experience is an honor that words do not adequately express. To this year’s class, HOLD ON, BUCKLE UP and be ready for an adventure of your life.”

Class members will meet weekly for sessions on various topics. A leadership skill-building component is incorporated into each session. Leaders in key areas, such as health care, criminal justice, economic development, quality of life, education and government will share an overview of the present state, challenges, and future vision. This information provides the class with a broad understanding of the inter-workings of Jackson-Madison County and a big picture view. It also engages them in a self-analysis of where they can best make a positive impact by getting involved or by being a resource for their company or sphere of influence.

“Preparations for the 2016 Leadership Jackson class have been taking place since the first of the year,” says Johnson. “The anticipation is immense and we are so excited to finally get started! This program was transformational for me, both personally and professionally. I cannot wait to see the impact it will have on this group. Individuals will grow; lifelong relationships will be made; leaders will rise and all will come to know and love Jackson more than they thought possible! Welcome, LJ Class of 2016!”
