Board Member Challenge awards prizes, free employees

Jackson Chamber’s Board of Directors were summoned to a challenge between August to October of 2016 to see who could recruit the most new members to the chamber. The grand prize was a $500 check and the services of Jackson Chamber’s Ryan Porter, COO/General Counsel and Kyle Spurgeon, President/CEO to work for free for half a day.
Membership’s Lisa Little and Jennifer Lawson created the 2016 Board Member Challenge, addressing board members and giving them the “scoop” on the contest while presenting each one with an actual ice cream scoop.
After months of competition, the winner of the grand prize was Commercial Bank and Trust Company. President Monte Jones received a check along with Porter and Spurgeon for half a day’s labor on to be awarded to the bank.
During their short-term employment at Commercial Bank and Trust, Kyle and Ryan participated in a coin rolling competition where Kyle lost to Ryan by a penny, paraded advertisements for the bank, washed customer’s windows, decorated cupcakes for Jones’ birthday and stuffed envelopes among a few duties. It was all in fun and the day ended with a song, grass skirts and a couple of pink slips after the pair were caught eating cupcakes instead of working.
Other board members that were up to the challenge included Hoyt Hayes Construction, Josh Hayes, vice president and Pinnacle Foods Group, Inc.’s Mike Pace, plant manager. Prizes were also awarded in a random drawing from these new chamber members: Jackson Good Morning! Rotary won a future credit for their membership dues, and The Design Shop, Inc. won a Member Connection spotlight where they will be highlighted in one of Jackson Chamber’s future video newsletters.
The chamber thrives on its membership and serves the community in many areas including economic development, small business support, government advocacy and education. Jackson Chamber’s Board of Directors is made up of leaders in the community that function as officers and decision makers for the chamber.
