The University of Tennessee Center for Industrial Services and the Jackson Chamber held Manufacturing Today, a Manufacturing Day 2016 event that introduced Jackson-area students and educators to local manufacturing. Approximately 70 students were in attendance.
On Friday, October 7th, Manufacturing Today kicked-off during lunch at the West Tennessee Research & Education Center, followed by tours of local manufacturing industries. The goal of Manufacturing Today was to raise awareness about manufacturing job opportunities and the exceptional training options available. The students got a glimpse into the atmosphere of a manufacturing plant. Students and educators came from schools across the Jackson area to learn what the manufacturing industry looks like today.

Considering how manufacturing job environments and necessary skill sets have changed quite drastically over the years, this event could open the eyes of students and educators to a career path they had not considered. Schools attending the event included Tennessee College of Applied Technology Jackson, the Advanced Maintenance Technician Co-op Program at Jackson State Community College and Clarksburg High School.
