Technical / Industrial Training
Customized Training For Each EmployerIn Tennessee, industrial training is a customer-designed package developed to meet the needs of each new and expanding industry. The Industrial Training Service utilizes dozens of community colleges, technical institutes and technology centers to provide instructional services throughout the state.
By putting its economic development money in industrial training, the state is investing in Tennesseans while it offers industry major savings in start-up costs. The efficient process can begin even before a company opens its facility. The training program allows industry to develop and maintain a skilled labor force, to start production in the shortest possible time and to have an ongoing resource.
Levels of training assistance are determined by the amount of investment and the net number of new hires.
Focus areas are:
- Manufacturing Engineering Technology
- Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology
- Civil and Machine Tool Technology
- Graphic Design Technology
Other major local components of the state's training program are the Tennessee Technology Center at Jackson and Job Training Partnership Act. The state can also contract with private vendors to provide an industry's training.
By using the services of the Tennessee Job Service, new employees can be recruited, screened and interviewed, using the company’s job descriptions and criteria. Applicants meeting a company's criteria are referred to the company for final interviews and hiring decisions.
Unlike the federal Job Training Partnership Program, the state's program does not have eligibility requirements for applicant industries. It asks only that a company hire Tennesseans.
Tennessee's Industrial Training Service pulls together a network of 26 state technical centers, 14 technical institutes, 45 public and private colleges and universities and 375 comprehensive secondary vocational schools.
The Industrial Training Service is a great example of how Tennesseans work together to meet industry needs.
