Shanda Wicker is the director of the Southwest Tennessee Reconnect program. This program, which is one of Governor Haslam’s Drive to 55 programs, helps adults return to college and attain their degree. The offices for Southwest Tennessee Reconnect are housed inside the Jackson Chamber.
As director of the Southwest Tennessee Reconnect Community (SWTRC), Wicker will reach out to and support adults locally to re-enroll and complete a postsecondary credential. She will make sure that prospective adult learners will be provided a variety of services including advising, career counseling and scholarship resources. Wicker will act as a connecting point for local employers, local institutions of higher education and prospective adult learners, working to create awareness of the benefits of adult completion as a strategy for economic development and a source for workforce talent.
Prior to her position with the Southwest Tennessee Reconnect Community, Shanda worked in the nonprofit arena, namely her alma mater, The University of Memphis and Habitat for Humanity of Greater Memphis. Through her various positions at these organizations, she has become attune to the needs of community stakeholders allowing them to give back to the people they serve. She is married with two sons.
