Haven’t made your 4th of July plans yet? According to Visit Jackson, TN’s calendar, you’ll have plenty of activities to choose from over the holiday.
Festivities in Jackson kick off on July 4th with the Firefighters Freedom Festival, a free, family-oriented festival and 4th of July fireworks. This event includes activities for children, food vendors, and live music. Join the Madison County Fire Department at McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport on Wednesday, July 4, 2018. Gates open at 3:00pm, and the music will begin at 4:00pm. You will not want to miss the headliner of the event, Rev. Jessie and the Holy Smokes! Later in the evening, enjoy a 30-minute firework show beginning around dusk!
Bring your lawn chair and blanket and visit the available concession stands while enjoying an evening of family fun in celebration of the 4th of July! Visit the Madison County Fire Department or call 731.424.5577 for more information.
Or celebrate the 4th with the Jackson Generals at the Ballpark at 6:00pm as they take on the Tennessee Smokies. Stick around after the game for a post-game fireworks show.

What do you get when you have a bunch of Volunteer Firefighters who want to create a safe event for families to celebrate the 4th of July? The Firefighters Freedom Festival.
The Madison County Fire Department consists of 180+ volunteer members who are responsible for providing fire safety education to school children, civic groups and businesses throughout Madison County. This group saw a need to provide education and develop additional programs with the focus of reducing fire related injuries and deaths throughout our community especially during the 4th of July holiday.
In response, they decided to put together a free, family oriented festival and Fourth of July Fireworks. Since inception, there have not been any 4th of July fireworks related calls in the county over the past 4 years. They have organized the event, scheduled the activities for children, arranged food concessions and even thought about the porta-johns. Join the Madison County Fire Department gates open at 3:00 pm, Wednesday, July 4, 2018 at McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport, 308 Grady Montgomery Drive, Jackson, TN 38301 to celebrate!
The music begins at 4:00pm and Rev. Jessie and the Holy Smokes headline the event. Fireworks are planned for dusk.
A special “Thank You” to Stage Sponsor: The Bank of Jackson. The Dog Park Dash Grant is a program funded by The Randy Boyd Foundation to support our furry friends and awards $25,000 grants to communities across Tennessee. Jackson has applied and is entered for the chance at $100,000. Only one city in Tennessee will be awarded the grand prize and they must show their pet pride on social media to win.
Locally the grant plans include a small dogs area and a large dogs area with an agility course and water feature. The park will be located next to the Ballpark at 4 Fun Place, home of the Jackson Generals making it the most pet friendly ballpark in the United States.
Share your pet’s special story and why we are the most pet friendly city in Tennessee. Don’t own a dog? Donate your time at the Animal Care Center of Jackson or any of our local dog groups and post your pictures.
The grant Is a collaborative project of the City of Jackson, Jackson Generals, Visit Jackson TN and the Jackson Chamber.
Zagster bike in front of downtown Jackson Mural.
The City of Jackson and the Jackson Chamber have partnered with Zagster to bring bike sharing to Jackson. The announcement was made June 10 during the second day of the Rockabilly Gran Prix cycling races as area officials took a fun lap around Downtown Jackson on the new bikes.
“Bike sharing is important to the quality of life of our city,” says Stan Pilant, director of planning, City of Jackson. “With Zagster, we are able to provide new mobility options that are both fun and healthy.”
The City of Jackson, West Tennessee Healthcare and Toyota have all invested in the new program. The Jackson Chamber and Visit Jackson both helped facilitate the development and launch of Zagster.
"At Toyota, we're transforming into a mobility company and creating new ways for people to move across town or across the room. By supporting bike sharing in the City of Jackson, we believe we’re helping to enable the freedom of movement and providing better access to jobs, education, opportunity and fulfillment for our community," said Shawn Daly, Toyota Bodine plant manager. “Toyota Bodine is celebrating 15 years in Jackson, and we are proud to contribute to the area’s progress and to its future.”
Locations for the bicycles include downtown Jackson at 223 North Highland near the Grubb’s Grocery; The Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, 620 Skyline Drive, near the Emergency Walk-In entrance; Lane College at 545 Lane Avenue near Saunders Hall, and Union University, 1050 Union University Drive near the Bowld Student Commons.
Across the nation about half of the people that say they want to bike more often do not own a bike, hence bike sharing was born. Zagster is the leading bike share program in the U.S., operating more than 200 bike share programs in 35 states across the U.S. and making bicycles available to over 6.5 million people.
How it works:
- Download the Zagster app
- Find bikes available near you on a public rack
- Choose your bike, unlocking it by number given in the app
- Tap the bike number in the app to begin your ride
- Tap to end your ride, locking the bike at the nearest Zagster rack
-
Payment options include Pay-As-You-Go with your first hour free, then $1 per hour to ride; Annual Membership of $20 and Student Annual Membership of $10, each offering 3 hours of free ride time.
For more information about Zagster, go to zagster.com/jacksontn or download the free app on the App Store or Google Play.
