“Honoring 50+ years in Photographs”
Jackson Madison County Bicentennial Celebration
The Ned McWherter Cultural Arts Center

Jackson, TN: The kickoff of the Jackson Madison County Bicentennial Celebration is the perfect
time to honor and recognize a photographer who has spent 50+ years serving the Jackson and
West Tennessee area, Mitch Carter – Moore Studio.

Mitch Carter will be honored through a Photographic Exhibit at the Ned McWherter Cultural
Arts Center (The Ned), Jackson, TN beginning on September 9th through October 31st. The
Gallery Exhibit will showcase a sampling of his work through the past 50+ years. Highlights of
the exhibit will display “Vintage Brides – 50’s, 60’s, 70’s” along with samplings of Celebrities,
Portraits of Local Businesspeople and government representatives through the years. Miss
Tennessee Queens and historical photographs of downtown Jackson are also included.

Moore Studio was founded in 1903 by Robert and Patty Moore. Mr. Devone E. Dooley was the
2nd generation owner of Moore Studio and at the age of 19, Mitch became an apprentice to
Dooley. He began learning the art of photography through participation and hands-on work.
Dooley taught Mitch the photo development process, and Mitch continued to develop all his
own photographs until the digital camera age was introduced. Mitch purchased the business
from Dooley and became the sole owner in 1973. He continued to build the business to 30
employees in six (6) locations throughout West Tennessee. He was the Official Photographer
for many events, programs, and organizations including Miss Tennessee Pageant for 47 years.
Mitch retired in 2020 and sold the business to Jason Harpig. Harpig is the 4th generation owner
of Moore Studio and actively continues the business of Moore Studio in the same location on
Liberty Street in downtown Jackson.

Jackson Madison County Bicentennial and The Jackson Photo Club is proud to sponsor the
Mitch Carter Gallery Exhibit. Everyone is invited to attend the Gallery Opening Reception at The
Ned on Thursday, September 9 from 5pm-7pm. There is no charge to view the gallery or attend
the reception.
