displaced by Vision 2020 restructuring should receive their new assignments no later than March, and principals will receive their assignments in January, according to Bryan Chandler, leader of elementary education for the Jackson-Madison County School System.

Four members of the Jackson-Madison County school board met with central office employees and Superintendent Verna Ruffin on Monday to discuss staffing and moving plans that will be implemented when a Vision 2020 plan is approved by the board. Vision 2020 is an initiative to close some schools to more efficiently use the district's space and divert money to support teachers and educational programs.

“If I’m a teacher and I’ve been teaching in the same building for 20 years, that’s a big change,” said board member Jeffery Head. “I’ve got to feel very welcomed where I’m going.”

Chandler went over preliminary plans, which were created by committees comprised of teachers, staff and district personnel.
