Brooks Shaw’s Old Country Store Returns To Buffet

October 7, 2020

A family-owned business celebrating 55 years of serving West Tennessee, Brooks Shaw’s Old Country Store will welcome guests back to its renowned buffet and salad bar with its new fall and winter menus beginning Thursday, Oct. 1, at 11 a.m.

“Thursday will be a homecoming for the Old Country Store family,” Clark Shaw, president and CEO, said. “Offering hospitality to our neighbors and area visitors has been a long-time mission for Juanita, our children and me, as it was for my parents. We are excited for everyone to gather together safely.”

This week’s change follows a six-month break from serving guests at the buffet. In response to COVID-19 and to adhere to guidelines set by the Centers for Disease Control and state and local governments, the Shaw family closed its buffet but kept the Dixie Cafe open for carry out for several weeks. The restaurant then changed to family style dining (with meals being ordered and served at tables) after reopening.

“Many of our guests loved being served at the table, but many more guests spoke loudly and clearly that they wanted our buffets to return,” Brooks Shaw, general manager, explained. “With eight meats, 12 vegetables, four breads, four desserts and six soups, in addition to our popular salad and fruit bar, our buffet is going to be bigger than ever! Because we know everyone is facing challenges this year, we also have lowered our prices at select meal periods.”

Late last week the Jackson-Madison County Health Department lifted its restrictions on self-serve buffets, as long as social distancing, good hand hygiene and sanitization remain in practice.

“Our staff will continue wearing masks and thoroughly cleaning and sanitizing the dining and service areas throughout the day,” Brooks Shaw said. “Seating will remain at reduced capacity, and we will ask our guests to follow social distancing guidelines.”

Old Country Store has implemented additional safety precautions, including hand sanitizer stations throughout the restaurant and gloves available for guests who wish to use them while selecting items from the buffet and salad bar.

The Old Country Store will continue to offer family style dining for those who wish to make reservations for a group of 15 or more. Anyone interested in family style reservations may call the sales department at 731-300-4495.

After Oct. 1, buffet hours and prices will be the following.
