Event Details

Join Pinson Mounds State Park for a special event, to climb Saul’s Mound & view the total lunar eclipse! This will be the last total lunar eclipse until 2021 so this will be unique opportunity! This is a special lunar eclipse as the moon will be near its closest point to earth, and also is being called a wolf moon. This name comes from the Native Americans that could hear wolves howling at the moon during winter time in the past. It was a method of marking the changing of seasons.

Participants will need to meet in the museum, and then head outĀ  to climb Saul’s Mound for the viewing.

This event costs $6 per person that is 12 years and older, but all ages are welcome! THIS EVENT REQUIRES ONLINE REGISTRATION & isĀ limited to 55 paid spots (this does not include anyone under 12, as they do not need to be registered/paid for). Any cancellations need to be done at least two days in advance of the event in order to give others a chance to register. Refunds will not be given if cancelled after this time. Be sure to bundle up, as it will most likely be cold. In the event of inclement weather, refunds will be issued.

Due to this being a night event and Pinson Mounds State Park being a day use park, the park will still close down from sunset until 9:00pm, when the park will reopen for this event. Staying in the park from sunset until the start of the event is NOT permitted.

For questions and/or concerns, please contact our park office at (731) 988-5614 and ask for Ranger Lane Erwin or email james.erwin@tn.gov.
