The Greater Jackson Chamber is proud to announce the winners of the National Civics Bee area finals, held at Jackson State Community College on March 26. 

Six outstanding middle school students were invited to compete in the finals after being selected from a pool of applicants who submitted essays addressing local community challenges and proposing solutions. These finalists showcased their civics knowledge through live quizzes and presented their essay topics to a panel of judges. 

The National Civics Bee is a nationwide initiative designed to inspire young Americans to actively participate in civic life and contribute positively to their communities. Organized in partnership with The Civic Trust of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, the competition aims to cultivate informed citizens who engage constructively within their communities and foster trust in democratic institutions. 

The Greater Jackson Chamber was one of five chambers in Tennessee to pilot this program.  

Phoebe Coleman from Union City Middle School was named the winner of the competition. Skyler Hillin from Union City Middle School placed second, and Makyla Love from North Parkway Middle School placed third. These top three finalists will compete in the National Civics Bee – Tennessee State Finals in May.
