Jackson Energy Authority: Real People – Real Service

In 1871 the Citizen’s Gas Light Company used burning coal/coke to generate gas, captured and spread through wood pipes to lamp-lighter-fired streetlamps in downtown Jackson.

Jackson, TN had streetlamps and its first collective utility service.

When Jackson, TN entered the 20th Century its citizens had access to a full range of services including gas, electricity, water, sewer and telephone.

Today the Jackson Energy Authority (JEA) delivers nationally recognized, award-winning utility services through one company to over 50,000 industrial, commercial and residential customers. JEA services include electric power, natural gas, propane, water, treated wastewater, Gig Internet, telephone and cable TV. All of these services are backed by exceptional customer service.

JEA’s EPlus Broadband system, established in 2004, was the first full fiber-to-the home system in TN.  EPlus Broadband now provides a 100% fiber optic Gigabit Ethernet network with bandwidth availability to 10 Gbps and beyond.

JEA’s Electric and Natural Gas Divisions provide safe, reliable services nationally recognized by the American Public Power Association (Diamond RP3 Award) and the American Public Natural Gas Association (Gold SOAR Award).

JEA’s Water System has received 8 consecutive years of perfect scores (TN inspection based on EPA requirements) with water drawn from a 100% aquifer base with lab-tested clean water discharge.

All of this is accomplished through trained employees committed to the life-quality and economic development of Jackson.

Monte Cooper, JEA President & CEO, notes, “Utility service has changed during Jackson’s history with technology advancements and in service expectations from our customers. What has not changed is JEA’s service commitment. We are part of this community. We are your neighbors. Our customers are real people and so are JEA employees.  Together we provide lifestyle quality and the foundation services for business and industrial economic growth.”

Based on Jackson’s utility history from its origins through the Jackson Utility Division (1959) to JEA (2001), the Jackson Energy Authority continues that history of innovation, community involvement and commitment to lead the way into Jackson’s future.
