JMC Library to Reopen with Curbside Service on July 13

July 9, 2020

Library hours for July 13, 2020

After a two-week closure due to a mandatory quarantine after two staff members tested positive for COVID-19, the Jackson-Madison County Library will reopen on Mon., July 13 with curbside service at both the Main Library downtown and the North Branch. Services offered will include picking up materials, computer use for essential government services and printing and faxing of essential documents.

Patrons interested in checking out materials can either call to place those items on hold or can use the library’s patron portal on its website to place items on hold. After receiving a notification, patrons can pull up to the library to notify staff that they have arrived to pick up those items. The library will also take walk-up requests for materials at both locations. Patrons coming to the Main Library should come to the College Street entrance to the building.

For those needing to use library computers, patrons are asked to call in advance to make an appointment and walk-up requests will be accommodated provided availability. Printing and faxing requests can be done on a walk-up basis. All patrons coming into the building for computer appointments must wear a face covering and temperatures will be checked.

“Our primary concern moving forward is to ensure the safety of our patrons and our staff,” said Dinah Harris, Library Director. “We appreciate the outpouring of support for our staff while we were closed and we are thankful that everyone has recovered. We are continuing to evaluate how we can best serve the community during this time and we look forward to being able to allow patrons into the building when we believe it is safe to do so.”

The library will continue to waive all overdue fines for materials. The Library’s summer program on ReadSquared will be extended into August to make up for the time the library has been closed. Library staff will not be in the building to answer phones until July 13.

The Jackson-Madison County Library is located at 433 E. Lafayette St. in downtown Jackson and the North Branch is located at 8 Stonebridge Blvd next to China Pan Buffet. For more information, contact the Library at 731-425-8600, visit the Library’s Facebook page or its website at www.jmclibrary.org.
