Science of Rock N Roll Traveling Exhibition Opens at Discovery Park of America, Union City

May 25, 2018

Let your inner rock star shine as you wind your way through the newest, most interactive exhibit to date, now open at Discovery Park of America in Union City!  The exhibit, entitled The Science of Rock N Roll, opened officially on Friday, May 25th, with Thursday evening setting the stage with a VIP fundraising dinner featuring The School of Rock Memphis.  A sold out crowd enjoyed a pork chop dinner from Hubs, great entertainment from the extremely talented School of Rock Memphis band and a sneak peek at the new exhibit. “It’s amazing, educational, interactive and fun,” exhibit director Jennifer Wildes said.

CEO Jim Rippy says that park officials are extremely excited about this new exhibit.  “This is the first time we have had an exhibit of this caliber open during our busy summer months,” Rippy said.  “We believe that all our guests will enjoy this extra attraction because it is so unique and entertaining,” he added.

The exhibit is very hands-on, with guests getting a chance to play the bass guitar, a regular guitar, the drums, and enjoy a larger than life live rock band performance in the live performance theater, among many other interactive opportunities.

The narrative begins sometime in the early 50s and progresses through Elvis, the Beatles, the Stones, punk, new wave, MTV, grunge and the rise of indie music in the 21st century.  From the transistor radio to the latest in digital technology, those attending will be amazed at how much science and technology are involved in creating the amazing rock-and-roll sounds we have all grown up with.  “Get ready to look at rock in an entirely new way; through the lens of science and technology,” exhibit creators promise.

The Science of Rock N Roll will be open in the ATA Traveling Exhibit Hall inside Discovery Center 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday through September 4th, 2018.  The cost is $5.00 for students, $6.00 for members and large groups and $7.00 for all others, in addition to park admission.

Marketing Director, Mary Nita Bondurant, said that the park has planned some fun events in conjunction with the exhibit.  “On July 28th, we plan to have an event called, “Rockin Out at the Museum,” and those attending can enjoy the exhibit throughout the evening.  Then, on August 18th, we’ll celebrate all the decades of rock at an event called, “Rocking through the Ages,” Bondurant said.  Complete information about these events can be found on the website.

The exhibit will also be available for guests during our June 15th “Members Only Park after Dark.”  “This special event is an evening opening of the entire park so that members can come out and enjoy the park at night,” Bondurant explained.
“A special invitation has been sent to all our members, and we think that giving them the chance to enjoy the park on a pretty summer night is a great member perk,” she added.  Bondurant said that anyone who would like to attend the Park after Dark on June 15th just needs to purchase and annual pass.
