Tennessee Restaurants Sales Tax Holiday

August 4, 2020

Tennessee has added a second tax holiday weekend in which consumers may purchase restaurant food tax free August 7-9, 2020

How will the restaurant tax-free weekend work?

Tennessee's second sales tax holiday weekend exempts  “restaurants” (defined as establishments that serve meals and drinks to patrons and have a seating capacity of at least 40 patrons) and “limited service restaurants” (defined as establishments that sell alcoholic beverages and food and have a seating capacity of at least 40 patrons, with a majority of revenue from the sale of alcoholic beverages.)

The law did not specify a spending limit on these restaurant exemptions.
