Tennessee Tourism 2021 Economic Impact

Visitors in Madison County spent around $292 million in the area during 2021, according to the County Spending and Economic Impact report. Visitors generated $23.9 million in state and local taxes, which resulted in $625 in tax savings for every household in Madison County.

The Tennessee Department of Tourist Development prepares this report every year. It's part of a larger Economic Impact of Travel on Tennessee report, meant to illustrate the impact of tourism on the state's economy.

Per the 2021 Economic Impact report, Tennessee tourism generated $24.2 billion in domestic and international travel spending in 2021, this data comes from the U.S. Travel Association and Tourism Economics. Travelers in Tennessee spend an estimated $66 million per day. Travel in Tennessee also generated $1.9 billion in state and local tax revenue. Additionally, travel and tourism is the third largest employer in the state. Visitor spending in Tennessee increased by 44.4%, year over year, while national visitor spending increased 35.7%, year over year.
